Frogg Toggs Chilly Pad Cooling Towel
Made from a hyper-evaporative material that retains water while remaining dry to the touch, The Chilly Pad® is an innovative way to cool down while enduring outdoor heat and/or high levels of physical activity. When wet, the towel begins to evaporate and cool, providing cool, soft comfort to the user. When it stops cooling, simply re-wet the towel in hot or cold water and wring it out. Within minutes, it’s cool again. Size: 33″ x 13″
CHILLY PAD FAQS
1. What is the Chilly Pad® product (Chilly Dana® and Chilly Sport™) made of?
The frogg toggs Chilly Pad®, Chilly Dana® and Chilly Sport™, are all constructed of a durable and organic “man made sponge” called polyvinyl alcohol.
2. How Does the Chilly Pad® (Dana & Sport) Work?
The Chilly Pad®, Dana and Sport material is highly absorbent, (like a sponge) and can absorb up to 8 times its weight in water. Once wet, the towels produce a cooling affect with the help of simple evaporation. As long as the towel is wet, exposed to the air, and allowed to “breath”… the Chilly towels will evaporate… and cool.
3. How should I care for the Chilly Towels?
Follow the instructions on the packaging for wetting the towel for its initial use. Once it is removed from the plastic packaging, wet the towel thoroughly, wring out any excess water, and allow the towel to begin evaporating.
If the towel becomes soiled or dirty, machine or hand wash with standard clothing detergent and rinse completely.
If the towel has been stored damp and develops mildew or an odor, add 1 tablespoon bleach to 1 gallon of warm water and allow the towel to soak for an hour or two. Then, rinse thoroughly to remove any bleach residue. The towel can now be washed in the washing machine to remove any residual stains. Hang the towel to dry, or place the towel in a storage container.
When storing the towel, (once washed) you may want to use the original storage tube that was included with the towel or store in a Ziploc bag for safe keeping. But the towel can also be hung and stored dry. (Simply rewet the towel to use again)
4. Can I put my Towel in the freezer or refrigerator?
Yes to the refrigerator… but no for the freezer. Since the Chilly Pad®, Dana, and Sport material is loaded with water when in use, placing it in the freezer (following use) will cause it to freeze and become brittle. However, placing the towel in a Ziploc bag or polybag and placing it in the refrigerator is no problem… and will help the towel remain damp, in preparation for its next use. (but like all towels, be sure to wash the towel before storing)
5. What happens if my Towel dries out?
No problem….Simply Rewet the towel (Preferably in warm or hot Water) and wring out the excess water once the towel is completely wet. (It will then be ready for use again) In the event that the towel has been dry or in storage for a long period of time, (and has become hard) simply toss it in the Washing machine on a “Hot” water setting… and wash it like you would a T-Shirt. The Washing cycle will clean the towel, and the Hotwater will soften the material.
6. How long will the Towels last?
With proper care and storage, the towels will last, and continue to provide evaporative cooling for several years.
7. Will the Towel become less effective with age?
No… If the towel is washed, stored and cared for properly, it will continue to evaporate and cool (when wet) for several years.
8. Can I cut my Towel or Bandana?
Sure… No problem. Each towel has an internal mesh reinforcing material that will allow you to cut it into any shape that fits your needs.
9. Does the Chilly Pad® material come in larger sizes or in shirts or shorts?
Unfortunately no… Not at this time. (But we’re working on it)
10. Can I buy the Chilly Pad® material?
No… Regrettably not. The “Sponge” material in the Chilly Pad®, Dana and Sport is actually “Baked” and molded in a pan…” like a cake” and isn’t available in “Material”`form…
11. Can I wear my Chilly Pad® under my clothes, or at night when I’m asleep?
We don’t recommend it. In order to evaporate effectively, the towels should be allowed to breath, and be exposed to air when in use. In fact, turning the towels periodically when in extended use will help the evaporation and cooling process and allow skin to”breath” as well.
12. Is the Chilly Pad® material recyclable?
Yes… In fact… the Organic nature of the material allows that the towel (when tattered, torn, and ready to throw away) can actually be ground up, and blended with soil to help dry soil retain moisture. It is completely inert, and will slowly decompose… and become a part of the environment.
13. If I have any other questions regarding the Chilly Pad®, Dana or Sport, is there someone that I can contact?
Yes… If you have any other questions about the Chilly Pad® products, please send an email to [email protected] and we will answer your questions as best we can.
